Report: Paramount ready to get things going

A new article from our friend Vic Holtreman at Screenrant cites a studio source with a report that Paramount liked the story pitch for the Star Trek sequel and that they are "already willing to spend money on pre-production offices." This report is consistent with TrekMovie reporting, as all indications are that Paramount is bullish on the Star Trek sequel and wants to get things going to ensure they make their June, 29 2012 date.

As previously reported, sequel co-writer/producer Roberto Orci recently said that the writing team (of Orci, Damon Lindelof and Alex Kurtzman) hope to hand in the first draft of the script to the studio by late March, and this week he and fellow co-writer/producer Damon Lindelof spoke about ‘holing up’ in a hotel to the first draft. And on Thursday, actor Simon Pegg said buzz on the script was good, or as he put it "that the "word on the bridge is the new script is AMAZEBALLS", appearing to confirm that insider buzz.

Traditionally films need a script to get a greenlight and budget and to start pre-production, but once Paramount set the June 29, 2012 release date (which they did thirteen months ago) the Star Trek sequel had what one insider called a "soft greenlight" meaning that the studio assumes the film will go ahead even before getting a script. While many aspects of pre-production require an agreed script draft (like casting, designing, location scouting, construction, etc.) there are still things that could be done to lay the groundwork, such as set up offices and possibly lining up the required crew, which is expected to be a close mirror to the team that put together the 2009 Star Trek film.

So things continue to move in the right direction for the 2012 Star Trek sequel, and 2011 looks to be an eventful year for the film moving into to pre-production soon and then production, which is reported to be starting in August.

Flashback: Four Years ago today Paramount announced JJ Abrams Star Trek

It might be hard to believe, but it was February 27, 2007 when Paramount officially announced that were making a new Star Trek movie. In a release titled "J.J. Abrams to direct Star Trek Feature Film For Paramount in Theaters Christmas Day 2008" studio chief Brad Grey stated (in part) "The revival of the ‘Star Trek’ franchise is an important part of Paramount’s turnaround." The release also quoted Abrams, who said:

JJ Abrams (2/27/07): If there’s something I’m dying to see, it’s the brilliance and optimism of Roddenberry’s world brought back to the big screen. Alex and Bob wrote an amazing script that embraces and respects Trek canon, but charts its own course. Our goal is to make a picture for everyone — life-long fans and the uninitiated. Needless to say, I am honored and excited to be part of this next chapter of Star Trek.

Although word about a JJ Abrams-produced Star Trek project was first reported in the spring of 2006 (before TrekMovie.com launched), the only official release from Paramount before Feb. 27, 2007 was the Abrams-designed teaser poster at Comic-Con 2006.

The February 2007 official announcement confirmed that Abrams would be directing as well as producing (along with Damon Lindelof), with a shooting start target of Fall 2007 and a release date of Christmas 2008 (which was later changed to May 2009). The release didn’t reveal a title, cast, or any plot details. Even though TrekMovie and others were unofficially reporting that the film would recast Kirk and Spock, it wasn’t until later in spring 2007 that Abrams confirmed this, and not until Comic-Con 2007 that the team announced the casting of Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy, as the two Spocks.

One of the most closely guarded trade secrets in the history of commerce may be a secret no more: NPR's "This American Life" thinks it has found the exact recipe for the world's most popular soft drink in a 1979 newspaper article.

According to the show's host, Ira Glass, the drink's secret flavoring component, which was created by pharmacist John Pemberton in 1886, is something called "Merchandise 7X." The show's staff recently stumbled across the February 8, 1979 edition of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which published an article on page 28 about a leather-bound notebook that once belonged to Pemberton's best friend, another pharmacist in the Atlanta area named R. R. Evans. The notebook contained a number of pharmacological recipes--but the main entry, for students of commercial history, was what's believed to be the exact recipe for the soft drink: all of the ingredients listed with the exact amounts needed to whip up a batch.

The Journal-Constitution piece also featured a photo of the page in Evans' notebook detailing Coke recipe--essentially revealing the recipe to the world. But since 1979 well antedated the explosion of digital media, the photograph of the recipe didn't travel far beyond the Atlanta area.

Coke's recipe is one of the most closely guarded secrets in American commerce, steeped in cloak-and-dagger lore. After businessman Asa Griggs Candler bought out Pemberton--who also conjured up cough medicines and blood purifiers, among other things--in 1887 for $2,300, the exact recipe for 7X was placed in the vault in an Atlanta bank. It's been reported that only two company employees are privy to its ingredients and how they're mixed at any given time--and that those two aren't allowed to travel together out of fear that a traveling accident might take both of their lives.

According to company historian Mark Pendergrast, Candler was so paranoid about the recipe leaking out of his proprietary control that he would go through the company mail himself to prevent any employees from seeing invoices that might tip off its ingredients.

"It's this carefully passed-on secret ritual," Pendergrast told Glass, "and the formula is kept in a bank vault at Sun Trust, which used to be the Georgia Trust Company."

After Pendergrast reviewed the recipe in the 1979 newspaper photo, he concluded that it could well be the real deal: "I think that it certainly is a version of the formula," he said, adding, "It's very similar to a formula that I found" in one of John Pemberton's notebooks when he was doing research for the book.

So what's the secret to making Coke? Well, here's what was written in the notebook:

The recipe:

Fluid extract of Coca: 3 drams USP
Citric acid: 3 oz
Caffeine: 1 oz
Sugar: 30 (unclear quantity)
Water: 2.5 gal
Lime juice: 2 pints, 1 quart
Vanilla: 1 oz
Caramel: 1.5 oz or more for color

The secret 7X flavor (use 2 oz of flavor to 5 gals syrup):
Alcohol: 8 oz
Orange oil: 20 drops
Lemon oil: 30 drops
Nutmeg oil: 10 drops
Coriander: 5 drops
Neroli: 10 drops
Cinnamon: 10 drops

Pemberton had reportedly hit upon the formula for Coke in an attempt to overcome the addiction to morphine he contracted after the Civil War, so it's perhaps not surprising that, in addition to alcohol, the drink originally contained Coca leaves laced with cocaine. After Atlanta passed a local prohibition ordinance in the 1890s, the company took the booze out of the formula, and the company has used cocaine-free coca leaves since 1904.

When the beverage debuted in Atlanta-area pharmacies owned by friends of Pemberton, marketers pronounced it "a shot in the arm"-- while Pemberton himself hailed it as a cure for cure pain, impotence and headaches. In our more enlightened age, of course, we know that Coke "adds life"--together with a dollop or two of neroli and nutmeg oil.

One-time rental giant enters Chapter 11 bankruptcy with plan to reduce nearly $1 billion debt by 90 percent; no store closings or service cuts yet made.

Once dominant in the US market, video and game rental chain Blockbuster has been under siege in recent years by online streaming, mail-order, and kiosk competitors like Netflix and Redbox. The company's slide was underscored today, as it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

"That's (not quite) a wrap!"

In announcing the bankruptcy, Blockbuster stressed that it was "pre-arranged," and that the company has reached an agreement with some of its senior debt holders that will see the chain wipe out its nearly $1 billion in current debt. To accomplish this, those debt holders will loan an additional $125 million to Blockbuster so it can complete a reorganization plan that will examine ways to make its 3,000 US stores more profitable.

To put Blockbuster's debt in perspective, the company's revenues for the fiscal year ended January 3, 2010 totaled just over $4 billion. For the moment, all US Blockbuster stores will remain open and its services will continue unaffected by the restructuring. However, there's no telling how long that will last; former rivals Movie Gallery and Game Crazy kept nearly 800 retail locations open upon entering bankruptcy in February, only to shut them all down in May.

Once the restructuring is complete, the senior debt holders will own Blockbuster, and the company estimates its only debt will be $100 million or less of the restructuring loan. Those who currently own Blockbuster stock or hold junior debt will get nothing under the current plan.

The bankruptcy only applies to Blockbuster's US operations. The company's international counterparts, as well as franchisees both international and domestic, are not part of the Chapter 11 proceedings.

Blockbuster's bankruptcy has been expected for some time. Rumors of the move first appeared in early 2009, when the company was struggling under $328 million in debt. Concerns about the company were sparked again last month after a Los Angeles Times article reported on the company's plans for a pre-arranged bankruptcy proceeding that it would start in mid-September.

As of press time, Blockbuster stock was trading for $0.04, down from its $0.06 close on Wednesday. The company's shares have been trending downward for years, going back to a March 2007 high of $7.30.

PRINCE.EDWARD.ISLAND (CBC) - A Prince Edward Island couple who thought they were legally married nearly 19 years ago found out recently that they may have actually been living common law.

Jennifer Taylor and Glen Melanson held a marriage ceremony in a Toronto park in 1991. A minister officiated, and the papers were signed.

So the couple, who live in Cornwall, thought everything was in order.

But they never had a copy of their marriage certificate.

When they recently searched marriage registrations for the province of Ontario, their names were not listed. Attempts to find the papers at the church the minister was associated with also failed to produce anything.

Taylor and Melanson don't know if a marriage certificate exists. But, for now, they are unable to prove that they are legally married.

"I was pretty freaked out, to be honest," Taylor said Thursday. "We have two boys and, you know, I've had a wedding ring on for all this time. We have the pictures."

"Anyway, right now we're just living in sin and, you know, hoping for the best. We were just making jokes about it that you know we were going to change our Facebook status to single. And my kids are kind of rolling their eyes because, you know, it's embarrassing."

Taylor said they're trying to figure out what to do next get re-married or go through some other legal channel to make sure they're officially husband and wife.

how to chop a Maverick in 10 easy steps

1) Cut a V notch in the A pillar, near the top of the cowl area, just below the windshield. It should be about 2-3" deep.

2) After putting something inside to support the roof, make a cut right across the roof in a cross-car direction, about 4-5" above the top of the windshield. (do not remove the windshield: it won't be cut).

3) Pull back the windshield until you acheive the desired angle of chop.

4) Weld the V notches closed on the A pillars (that you cut in step 1)

5) Cut another V notch from the bottom back corner of the rear quarter window all the way to the back of the pillar. DO NOT CUT ACROSS THE BACK!!!) The rear window does not have to be removed.

6) Pull the roof down to meet with the new location of the top of the windshield. Make sure that you have a nice profile along the roof from the top of the glass all the way to the deck lid.

7) Cut the excess material out of the roof to accomodate a butt-weld seam where the front and back meet.

8) The sideglass will now have to be flat rather than curved (like a 60's or earlier car). The rear quarter glass should be mounted against a flat fabricated window frame.

9) Fabricate the window channel for the front doors, allowing for flat glass.

10) Cut masonite templates for the new glass, go to the local glass shop and have the shaped cut out of laminate flat glass.

i don't actually like cell phones. oh, i like the convenience of having a phone with me all the time, the camera is nice, i have a blackberry so i do much of my email over the phone i have my calender with me at all times. i like having msn on my phone as well as it being very handy to have facebook in my pocket all the time. teens don't like email so facebook works great. i like having gps in my pocket just in case my awesome sense of direction fails, and if everything goes wrong, i can just buy a new whatever on ebay with the internet that is on my phone at all times. i have as much capacity for music as i care to purchase (mini sd card)my video camera has a flash so i have a flashlight in my pocket. twitter annoys me so i guess that is good and my space is dead but still available on my phone.

CALGARY (CBC) - Leonard Nimoy, the actor who immortalized the character Spock on Star Trek, was hailed as a homecoming hero as he led a parade in Vulcan, Alta., celebrating the town's status as "official Star Trek capital of Canada."

"I've been a Vulcan for 44 years. It's about time I came home," Nimoy, 79, said to cheers.

He spoke about how his achievements as an actor far exceeded what he had dreamed of, but told the crowd, "I've never had an experience quite as touching as this and I appreciate it. Thank you."

He ended his brief address to the town with Spock's signature salute: "May each and every one of you live long and prosper."

More than 1,000 people many adorned with pointy Vulcan ears or dressed in Star Trek costumes crammed into the town to catch a glimpse of the star.

"A living legend. I think he's the sexiest man on television, ever," said Christine Desjardins, who sported a red Starfleet tunic. "Then and now. Can't beat him."

Nimoy was invited to visit the town after he backed Vulcan's failed bid to host the world premiere of Star Trek XI in March 2009. His celebrity endorsement swelled interest in the town of about 1,900 people, located 130 kilometres southeast of Calgary.

After a private tour of Vulcan's Trek-inspired tourist centre, Nimoy joined the high-school band, as well as the town council dressed in Star Trek uniforms, in a parade through Vulcan's downtown.

Nimoy unveiled a bronze bust of Spock, Nimoy's character in the Star Trek series, which was commissioned by the town. The mayor then presented him with the key and transporter co-ordinates to Vulcan.

"Wait till Bill Shatner hears about this!" he said about his warm welcome.

A railway surveyor named the settlement after the Roman god of fire in 1915, but the town shares its name with the birth planet of Spock.

The town has unabashedly embraced its sci-fi connection: visitors are greeted with a star ship model and a welcome plaque in English, Vulcan and Klingon.

For the next year, Nimoy is lending the Vulcan Tourism & Trek Station the Spock ears he wore during the Star Trek television series and an autographed lithograph of the original cast.

The public appearance in Vulcan is likely to be one of Nimoy's last.

"I've announced this past week or so that I will not be doing any more acting. When you're done with that kind of work it's time to go home. So I'm going home," he told CBC News in an interview.

Michael Black, wearing a yellow Starfleet tunic, brought his son Nick, 10, who wore Vulcan ears.

"Especially since this is going to be his retirement party, as it were, I thought what a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show my boy the kind of stuff I used to love when I was his age," Black said.

"He's brought so much to us, to this town, he shows up the least-expected places Vulcan, Alberta, of all places," he said. "What an honour to be around him and to be part of his legacy."

Nimoy is appearing at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo on the weekend, along with other sci-fi actors including Malcolm McDowell (Alex from A Clockwork Orange), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian from Star Wars) and stars from the Twilight franchise.

Organizers were expecting 15,000 people to attend the expo over two days.

In the interview with CBC News, Nimoy also weighed in on a Facebook campaign to have Shatner the Canadian who played Capt. James T. Kirk in Star Trek appointed as Canada's next governor general.

"I hope it happens," Nimoy said of his old co-star, whose career continues to prosper. "It would be a very healthy thing for him to get out of the house and find something to do with his time, don't you think?"

Why 'Avatar' is actually the 26th biggest movie
Boxoffice is arguably more straightforward to report than TV ratings. You have this weekly Top 10 list of returns, you compare each movie to the other movies. TV ratings are a murky swamp where one network's hit is another network's flop and context is not just a factor, but often the entire story.

Yet one respect in which boxoffice reporting is pretty odd -- emphasizing ticket grosses yet rarely mentioning ticket sales. That would be like always reporting how many ad dollars sold off "Lost" and not mentioning the number of viewers that actually watched the show. LONDON (Reuters) - International hotel chain Holiday Inn is offering a trial human bed-warming service at three hotels in Britain this month.

If requested, a willing staff-member at two of the chain's London hotels and one in the northern English city of Manchester will dress in an all-in-one fleece sleeper suit before slipping between the sheets.

"The new Holiday Inn bed warmers service is a bit like having a giant hot water bottle in your bed," Holiday Inn spokeswoman Jane Bednall said in an emailed statement to Reuters.

The bed-warmer is equipped with a thermometer to measure the bed's required temperature of 20 degrees Celsius (68 Fahrenheit).

Holiday Inn said the warmer would be fully dressed and leave the bed before the guest occupied it. They could not confirm if the warmer would shower first, but said hair would be covered.

Florence Eavis, Holiday Inn spokeswoman told Reuters that the "innovative" bed-warming method was a response to Britain's recent cold weather and marked the launch of 3,200 new Holiday Inns worldwide.

She could not explain why the beds were not being warmed by hot water bottles or electric-blankets, but admitted the human method was quirky.

Holiday Inn are promoting the service with the help of sleep-expert Chris Idzikowski, director of the Edinburgh Sleep Center, who said the idea could help people sleep.

"There's plenty of scientific evidence to show that sleep starts at the beginning of the night when body temperature starts to drop," he said. "A warm bed - approximately 20 to 24 Celsius - is a good way to start this process whereas a cold bed would inhibit sleep."

meatloaf! that's it. now i do make the best meatloaf. Scotties doesn't even come close. i actually order it at restraints because i want to be judgmental (i am a christian after all) and there is no denying it. mine is far better. dot even tell me about all the great meatloaf you make. with that secret ingredient. it is always the same ingredient. it is ether onion soup base, or it is barbecue sauce with Dijon mustard. to both of those i flick a booger. it isn't secret if it is printed on the back of a mix box.
mine is the best because it has 3 major differences than yours. i will only give you one fur-sure ingredient and then a hint. the fur-sure ...... 3 eggs for every 2 pounds of meat. cant be made in one pound quantities. as for the hint reg. the other 2 ingredients ...... cant be bought in a regular grocery store, you probably don't have them in your house, and they make my meatloaf better than yours! so there!

DEFINITION OF ACCELERATION

One top fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 4 rows of stock cars at the Daytona 500.

It takes just 15/100ths of a second for all 6,000+ horsepower of an NHRA Top Fuel dragster engine to reach the rear wheels.

Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1-1/2 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced.

A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the dragster's supercharger. With 3,000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on
overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition.

Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle. At the stoichiometric (stoichiometry: methodology and technology by which quantities of reactants and products in chemical reactions are determined) 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture of nitro methane, the flame front temperature measures 7,050 deg F.

Nitro methane burns yellow... The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gases. Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder.

Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After halfway, the engine is dieseling from compression, plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1,400 deg F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow.
If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro
builds up in the affected cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blow cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half.

In order to exceed 300 mph in 4. 5 seconds, dragsters must accelerate an average of over 4G's. In order to reach 200 mph (well before half-track), the launch acceleration approaches 8G's.

Dragsters reach over 300 miles per hour before you have completed reading this sentence. Top fuel engines turn approximately 540 revolutions from light to light! Including the burnout, the engine must only survive 900
revolutions under load.

The redline is actually quite high at 9,500 rpm. Assuming all the equipment is paid off, the crew worked for
free, and for once NOTHING BLOWS UP, each run costs an estimate $1,000.00 per second.

The current top fuel dragster elapsed time record is 4.428 seconds for the quarter mile (11/12/06, Tony Schumacher, at Pomona , CA ). The top speed record is 336.15 mph as measured over the last 66' of the run (05/25/05 Tony Schumacher, at Hebron , OH ).

Putting all of this into perspective: You are driving the average $140,000 Lingenfelter 'twin-turbo' powered Corvette Z06. Over a mile up the road, a top fuel dragster is staged and ready to launch down a quarter mile strip as you pass. You have the advantage of a flying start. You run the 'Vette hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line and pass the dragster at an honest 200 mph. The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that moment.

The dragster launches and starts after you. You keep your foot down hard, but you hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds, the dragster catches and passes you. He beats you to the finish line, a quarter mile away from where you just passed him.

Think about it, from a standing start, the dragster had spotted you 200 mph and not only caught, but nearly blasted you off the road when he passed you within a mere 1,320 foot long race course.

...... now that is ACCELERATION!

i learned that if you put on the passenger side header first, then you cut your hand removing the header so you can put the drivers side on first!
I learned that when you tilt the engine with a floor jack to fit the drivers side header, with the car up on ramps, you end up using an engine hoist after the engine falls off the floor jack almost catching your fingers between the mount and the perch.
I learned that header bolts, when dropped, bounce off heads and vanish!
i learned that you can dump a motorcycle onto your wife's car and break off a mirror just because you want to get a socket on the far side of the bike but you don't want to walk around it, so instead you lean over top of it and tip it (and you) right over!

I learned that there is a limit to how much of my own stupidity i can dish out before i disgust myself and head inside to bed!

A number of automakers posted solid Canadian sales increases for the month of November on Tuesday.

Japanese automaker Toyota topped the list, the first time it has supplanted General Motors as the top seller in Canada. Preliminary data shows Toyota Canada Inc. sold 16,112 Toyota and Lexus cars, SUVs and trucks in November 2009, up 26 per cent from the same period last year.

The Toyota brand sold 14,829 vehicles in November, up 27.4 per cent from a year earlier. The boost was led by truck sales, which were up 54.1 per cent. Toyota's Lexus division sold 1,283 vehicles, up 11.4 per cent to its best November on record.

Between the mainstream Toyota brand and its luxury Lexus, the company sold 843 hybrid vehicles in the month, up 22 per cent.

Ford sold 15,895 cars during the month, good enough to leapfrog General Motors to be the second largest car seller in Canada. It had set itself apart from its North American competitors earlier this year by neither filing for bankruptcy protection nor asking for government bailout money.

The vehicles built at Ford's Oakville, Ont., plant which include the Lincoln MKX, Ford Edge and Ford Flex posted sales increases of as much as 25 per cent.

In October, Ford pledged to produce at least as many vehicles in Canada as it sells in the country. During negotiations with the Canadian Autoworkers at the time, Ford agreed to consider a third production shift at the Oakville facility if warranted by market conditions.

GM's Canadian arm sold 14,983 vehicles in Canada in November. That was good enough for third place, but the automaker's sales came in nearly 30 per cent below last year's level.

Chrysler came in fourth place, with 11,418 vehicles sold a drop of 26 per cent from last year's level.

Meanwhile, Hyundai continued to cement itself as a legitimate rival to the five traditional dominant Canadian car sellers of General Motors, Chrysler, Ford, Honda and Toyota.

Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. said it sold a record-breaking 7,022 units in November, up 26.2 per cent from a year earlier.

It was Hyundai's 11th straight month of double-digit sales increases, and 10th straight record-breaking month. With a month to go, 2009 has already become the company's best-ever year for Canadian sales.

The month was less bright for Honda Canada, which sold 8,896 vehicles at its Honda and Acura divisions last month, down four per cent from November 2008.

Automotive industry consultant Dennis DesRosiers was nonplussed by the sales figures, noting that total sales this year are still 12 per cent below last year's level.

"You can see just how weak November was last year, which puts November 2009 into perspective," he said.

i do wonder about peoples opinion of them selves sometimes. i spend very much time talking to teens about self-esteem and there unrealistic view of them selves (no one likes me, I'm too fat, skinny, so on)i try to do two things in these conversations. one, i try to help them with perspective, and two i try to show them Christs love and view point. i try to show and then i try to love. i pray for them and we put together a regiment of prayer and a plan to make them more accessible to there peers (very hard to have friends if you are home alone in your basement moping about not having any friends!) it works very well. now, that is one side of the pendulum, the other side is of course people who think them selves so important that thay may comment or crateke any and everything even when they don't play a part in my life at all. yesterday i Had a facebook update that said " i went to youth and got candy. i have 100 free tickets to new moon. i have no need for sleep or food! ha, some of that is questionable honesty at best!" if you read it it would seem clear to me that it was a joke but for the sake of this post lets say that i had skillfully hidden that i don't actually need food or sleep, or that the movie that is expected to top Star Trek (DIE A THOUSAND DEATHS, NEW MOON) actually did just give me 100 tickets, just for fun!Then i still would not think that the people that i have never met and in fact only know my dad feel free to rail on my on how i need to ... and i shouldn't...... and why don't i ......

bought a pressure washer today. it was 50 dollars more expensive than renting one for a day. then i sold some stereo equipment for the exact amount i payed for the pressure washer. i then traded pictures of my parents bathroom to a guy for an engine stand (he wanted to reno. his biffy like the one off mom and dads kitchen.) then i did this.

these are some pics of the progress on the maverick. body and interior.
it is at a shop being safetied right now. it only needed a new seat some body work and a break job. this might seem like a lot but it really isn't. i got a new seat with the car and the body work was done for less money than a weekend at a hotel.
this car will be striped of its motor and transmission very soon. the transmission will be rebuilt with the biggest shift kit i can buy and a new motor is almost finished being built. then new paint and we will be ready to go!!!!

Went out and picked up the tires for the maverick today. Then I drove over to a restaurant and had lunch with a guy today. I owed him a lunch for setting up my wireless router and was looking forward to the experience of sharing a meal with him. We were there and met out waitress. She was pleasant looking and had a kindly manner to her. She looked at my buddy and exclaimed that her daughter was as tall as a four year old and she was only two!! She was obviously proud of that and we were amused for her. After she left I asked my lunch companion who the girl was and how he knew here. My friend told me a story of a foster brother he had, and this brother is the father of the 2 year old girl. We then joked about a 10 foot tall teenage girl and other silly things, forgot the conversation and moved on to other topics. After lunch I had to jet off to a doctor’s appointment where I was sitting in a room with several VERY young soon to be moms. I then heard about one of my friends who had gone into labour earlier in the day. (She is married)(Calm down) so all in all this has been a very baby day.

I met with a mom today that was very concerned that I was pushing teens into sexual knowledge by letting girls who show cleavage come to youth group. I ended the conversation by telling her that she is right, this youth group might not be safe for her boys. But then nether is the school or church. Then we looked at some of the sexual imagery available right out the church windows. (Radio station bill board) We prayed for her sons and that she would have wisdom.

She left in tears.

Mandy bought a car! i dragged it home, got an engine, it is at the engine builder, bought wheels, (pick up tomorrow) got a body shop to do what needs to be done, put on a new steering wheel, got some new seats, found someone to recover them, rebuilt the rad (cuz i pit a ratchet threw it and made it leak)reinstalled the rad, built a battery plate, Mandy picked a new colour, (dark green) installed a mirror on the passenger door, sent my son to kindergarten! what did you do?

After 22 years and more than 2000 shows, newsboys frontman Peter Furler will no longer front Newsboys in concert. dc Talk's Michael Tait will instead be touring with the band as lead singer with Peter making special appearances throughout the year.
Peter will continue with the band and his trademark songwriting and production will remain as he focuses his professional career toward future Newsboys recordings.

Michael has been on the road with the band over the past weeks working alongside Peter in what has been a positive and enjoyable experience for both parties. It has been a graceful process that both Peter and Michael have worked through as they prepare to make the change in the coming weeks.

Peter states "Newsboys to me has always been a mission, and I entrust Mike, Jeff, Jody and Duncan to continue all that is in store for us as a band. I'm looking forward to focusing on the band's studio career and spending time in my own bed after many years in a tour bus and hundreds of thousands of miles on the road."

Wes Campbell, Newsboys manager explains, "While the decision to replace Peter on the road was a painstaking one, when the idea of dc Talk vocalist Michael Tait was presented it was a no-brainer to all of us. No one can replace Peter, but we know Michael will bring a new attitude, energy and vocal style that will thrill our audience.

"To be able to continue a world class show and still have Peter behind the scenes guiding the career and making of Newsboys music is a huge opportunity for all of us. It's amazing that after many years of touring with dc Talk in the 1990s that in 2009 our paths would cross once again. It's an exciting time for all of us."

Says Michel Tait: "For years, dc Talk and newsboys have been family and thus shared the same loyal and adoring fans. When I received the initial call from newsboys to consider joining the band as lead singer, I was speechless! Last weekend, Tait had the opportunity to perform his first show as Newsboys' frontman to an audience of 12,000 people.

got up, grabbed PDub and jumped into the truck. backed up to the trailer and hooked up, drove to the dump and emptied the last remnants of our sewer back up festival, (mmmmm stinky) then drove over to the church where mandy was mentoring a worship team! grabbed her, Silas, and Lydia Parrott (kids pastor) and went out for lunch. got home and tried my new dukes of hazzered ps2 game ($3.00 at a garage sale) Mandy went to a movie with Lydia (year one)(apparently it is stinkin hilarious) Mandy came home and i went out to the garage to practise welding (that was fun) came in , had a bath, made and ate supper (roasted chicken sandwiches) put PDub in bed and turned on a movie (wrath of Khan) and picked up the computer to type a long over due blog entry. here is my point, I DID NOT PICK UP MY NEW MOTORCYCLE TODAY!! the current owner is hard to get ahold of. he wont take my money. I SHALL TRAP HIM TOMORROW!! mark my words.

Sharing a room with Peter Ralph (Volume III)

"Good night Peter."

"Good night."

And with that the lights in room 306 at the Days Inn Moose Jaw are turned off and two tuckered out pastors quickly fall asleep.

At 2am one of those pastors is jarred awake by a sound he cannot describe but invites you to make by trying your best to sound like a crow clearing phlegm out of its throat at top volume. Got it? Now inhale and try to make the same sound. There it is...

The sound is emitting in equal parts from the cavernous mouth and cute button nose of Peter Ralph. Sadly, I have been here before.

I lean towards his bed and yell "Peter...PETer...PETER!!!!" and turn the bedside lamp on.

Peter wakes up and is instantly apologetic. He assures me he is not only sorry but, "Sooooo Sorry!"

He looks exactly like his son. In a display of body language congruent with his verbal apology, he rolls over and with the precision of a civil engineer adjusts his sheets and pillows to best align his nasal passageways for optimum airflow and minimal snoring. After 10 seconds of thrashing he deems the configuration perfect and flops back to sleep.

And the nose (or "noise") starts up again - loud as ever. And plus now I am mildly scarred from watching Peter thrash around on his bed while not wearing a whole lot...

I reach for my ipod and find the most mellow music I can - bluegrass hymns.

But the snoring is too loud so I have to keep edging up the volume on the old bluegrass hymns. I am finding that even the most mellow banjo music, when enjoyed at ear splitting decibels is not all that conducive to sleep. One album cycles through. Second album begins...and finally I fall asleep!

Then I wake up again. I am pretty exited I actually fell asleep and tomorrow may not be a total waste. However, I am disappointed to note my ipod is still blaring and I have slept for all of 3 songs.

In the queen size bed to my left, Peter is still sawing logs with the vigor of a auditioning lumberjack.

I try the old combination of ipod and pillows surrounding my head. Although this worked last time it is a trade off...I can't hear the snoring as much, but it is hard to breath. It doesn't work this time. Last time was at the end of 4 tiring days and my fatigue was stronger than Peter's snoring. It doesn't work this time.

I begin to brainstorm creative solutions. I could:

Bang on other staff doors and beg to be admitted to their rooms

(problem: I don't actually remember what room Jake and Ray are in. Pleading outside the wrong door might not go over so well.)

Go get another room for myself.

(problem: this feels like defeat and probably not the best use of PAC's leadership training budget)

THE BATHROOM! I can go in there and sleep on the floor and close the door. It is brilliant as only ideas can be at 3:39am.

I grab every pillow I can from both beds and assemble all 5 of them on the undoubtedly sterile bathroom floor in room 306 at the Moose Jaw Days Inn. I haul my sheets and quilt from the bed and place them on the pillows. It looks alright - except I can't shut the door without putting a foot on either side of the toilet and that just seems kind of gross. So I hunker down on the floor with my torso and legs in the bathroom and my neck lying across the door jam, head out in the hall.

With the bathroom door having to be open, I am no better off. Like starting the night sleeping in a ditch by O'Hare airport and then moving into a tent to lessen the nose of the 747's.

Lying on the floor, sort of mad at Peter who is blissfully droning on and on, I get the breakthrough idea. This bathroom has a fan and I recall it being on the loud side!

I flip it on.

It is loud. Loud enough that I can barely hear Peter...

And finally, I fall asleep.

Then I have a dream. It was not a happy dream, for in this dream a gitch clad Peter Ralph stumbled his way to the bathroom in room 306 at the Days Inn Moose Jaw for an early morning whiz and did not for a second imagine he might find me sleeping on the floor....

*sigh*

For the record, next time I may possibly have to share a room with Peter is October 7, 2009 on the way to Catalyst.

unlike Scott, Chris, Jeff, and Darrell, i like it when my vehicles do what they are supposed to so today i replaced the air-conditioning compressor. now my truck blows frosty! you know for a family that hates being hot so much you sure are unwilling to be cool. just saying. also i bought a mig welder!

My wife and I are sitting downstairs watching the Survivor finale. the blonde girl has her chance to ask her question/accuse the last two standing. We are 2 hours into a 3 hour program. This truly is an excellent way to spend a Sunday. (I also had a 2 hour snooze) The doorbell rings. This always happens. I am totally into relaxing and now I'm going to miss a large part of my show. Oh well, perhaps God is trying to teach me something. MY wife moves for the door. She has one hand on the dog's collar and the other hand on the door handle and she calls me to the door. I quickly button up my shirt which has been unbuttoned for proper Survivor watching etiquette. I get to the door and you're not going to believe who's there. A one legged, this time sober, man who I last saw on January 24. This is the hit and hop bandit. He is standing in front of my house looking scared and says to me. "I would like to apologize for wrecking your truck. I hope I didn't put you out too badly." I welcome him into the house and he came in with his hand out and I asked him how he was doing. He said he was doing better. He said he was "pretty messed up back then". He wanted to apologise to me for any hassle he may have caused and I assured him that we were OK. He told me how hard it was for him to come to the door and how long it took him to get the courage. I assured him we had no bad blood between us and that if he ever saw me on the street stop by and say hi. I asked him his name and he said Jim. I again shook his hand and he left. This reminded me of 10 years ago when I had a Mustang get badly vandalized, ultimately fixed and sold and about 6 months later I get a phone call from the youth pastor at the church Mandy and I attended saying that a person has admitted to trashing my car and would like to meet with me. Bazaar yet strangely not uncommon, at least in my world.
i am currently praying that i will be able to have a friendship with Jim.
